Using connected accounts
A friendly guide for members - connect Google, Discord or Facebook, import your avatar and name, and disconnect safely.
Connected accounts let you sign in with an account you already have, like Google or Discord. They can also fill in your avatar and name so you don't have to - but only when you say so.
Connect an account
- Open your avatar menu, go to Settings, then Connected accounts.
- Find the provider under Sign-in accounts and select Connect.
- Sign in at the provider and allow access.
- You're back in settings with "Account connected". From now on you can use that button on the login page.
Your email here never changes, even if the provider account uses a different one. Each provider account can belong to one member only, and you can connect one account per provider.
Import your avatar or name
- Select Import avatar and name (or Import avatar, depending on what the provider shares) next to the account under Sign-in accounts.
- Pick what to bring over - avatar, first name, last name - and select Continue.
- Confirm it's you at the provider.
- Review the values, untick anything you don't want, and select Import selected.
Nothing changes until that last step. If the provider didn't share something, your current value stays as it is. Importing your name doesn't switch on "Show my real name".
Keep it up to date
- Under Profile, pick where each field comes from - for example "From Google" for your avatar. It saves right away.
- Under Sync, select Sync now next to that account. You confirm it's you at the provider and land right back in settings with your profile updated. You stay signed in the whole time.
- Want it automatic? Turn on On sign-in for that account.
Each field follows one account at a time, and different fields can follow different accounts.
Changed your mind and edited your name or avatar yourself? That field switches back to manual, so the next sync won't overwrite it.
Disconnect an account
Select Disconnect next to the account under Sign-in accounts and confirm. You can't sign in with that account anymore, and its sync settings are gone. Your avatar and name stay as they are.
The provider still lists this site as a connected app until you remove it in your provider account settings.
If that account is your only way in, you'll see "Keep a way to sign in". Set a password with Forgot password? on the login page, add a passkey under Security, or connect another account first.
